So, it’s been a while. More than a while, if I’m being honest, but I do have a good reason. At least I believe that it’s a moderately decent reason. You may disagree. You may be thinking, “I actually didn’t mind not seeing his incessant little blog posts popping up every week!” Either way. Here I am. Another rambling bit of thought to untangle. Another meandering muse. But as I sit down to write this little missive I find myself closer than I have ever been before to my debut novel’s release into the world. As of this past weekend I have received the final, proofread manuscript of “The Girl in the Storm.” I never quite believed that I would reach this point. I had dreams of it, of course, as any aspiring writer would. But it was the kind of dream that always seemed too distant. Too far beyond my reach. It was fun to daydream about the day when I could finally write a story and put it out into the world for people to read. But to make it happen? To see the dream become reality? That idea never quite registered with me as a true possibility. And yet. Here I am. The dream is becoming real.
It’s been a long, strange, fun, scary and exciting journey to reach this point and I have a feeling it’s only going to become more hectic from here on out.
While “The Girl in the Storm” barrels faster and faster towards its November 4th release, I stand ready to send its follow-up, “The Woman in Darkness”, to my editor this October. Meanwhile, the conclusion to my trilogy, “Elegy”, is already written and will be sent off for editing not long after that. (I foresee a great deal of editing in my future) It’s crazy enough to think of finally releasing one book, but to have three stories pulled together and ready (*almost) to go, that is the TRUE definition of ‘crazy’!
But a writer is never idle and despite the increasing hectic nature of my writing life these past few months, I have even more ideas swirling around in my head. The events of the “The Girl in the Storm” left open room for another story, as harrowing and dark as the story that birth to it, and that story will take the form of a novella titled, “She Hunts in Shadow.” If all goes well, I hope to have that story finished and ready for eBook release prior to the 2021 release of “The Woman in Darkness”. The good news: it’s officially plotted, and I’ve managed 2K words, so far! We’ll see if I can keep that pace up over the course of the next few months. What comes after that? Well, more stories of course! Yes, as I said before, a writer is never idle. (or at least this writer never is) I’ve already managed to pull together a fairly strong idea for a sequel series to my debut effort. This series, which will take place twenty-five years after the events of “A Season of Angels”, will be titled “A Season of Shadows” and will mark my very first foray into the world of dystopian fiction.
All of that is merely to say: I’m going to be a very busy man for quite some time. And that’s just fine by me. Who knows what the future will hold. But I have a feeling it will hold a great deal of storytelling and hopefully you will all be along with me for the ride.
